EU-UNICEF Partnership
The partnership between UNICEF and The European Commission’s Humanitarian Aid and Civil Protection department (ECHO) was established in 1992. EU funds relief operations for victims of natural disasters and conflicts outside of the European Union. This partnership has enabled UNICEF to assist and protect children in emergencies in 60 countries in the sectors of nutrition, health, water, hygiene and sanitation, child protection – including psychosocial support, education, cash transfers, resilience and disaster-preparedness.
It also addresses policy issues related to these sectors. Together, UNICEF and the EU advocate for children’s needs in humanitarian crises.
